Timber Sourced from FSC Certified Forests

Our wooden library ladders, pivot ladders, wooden handles, and wooden curtain poles are all crafted from timber sourced from FSC-certified forests, ensuring that our products support responsible forest management and help preserve ecosystems.

Eco-Friendly Paint Solutions

Mylands Paints: We offer a range of Mylands Plant-Based Multi Surface paints, which are water-based and have a low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) content. These paints are virtually solvent-free, making them a safe choice for you, your family, and the environment. Mylands is also one of the last remaining manufacturers to use natural earth pigments in their paints, providing a sumptuously deep, rich colour that is both beautiful and eco-friendly.

Our Commitment to Carbon Neutrality

In 2023, the Library Ladder Company proudly achieved carbon neutrality, verified by Carbon Neutral Britain. We are dedicated to maintaining this status through rigorous monitoring, reduction initiatives, and transparent reporting.

The Library Ladder Company is actively working to reduce its carbon emissions through measures such as promoting energy efficiency, minimising waste, and adopting sustainable transportation solutions. We have set clear targets to progressively decrease our carbon emissions, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions within the next five years.

FAQs

What is Biocircularity?

Biocircularity refers to the incorporation of materials that are part of the biological cycle, meaning they are renewable and can be returned safely to the environment after use. This concept is key to reducing waste and promoting sustainability. In our products, such as Purotouch wall panels and mouldings, biocircularity indicates that a portion of the materials used can be renewed or recycled, supporting a more sustainable life cycle.

What is FSC?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit organisation that establishes standards for responsible forest management. When we say our wooden library ladders and curtain poles are made from timber sourced from FSC certified forests, it means that the wood is harvested from forests managed according to FSC’s rigorous standards. This certification ensures that the forest's biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes are maintained.

What are Biobased Materials?

Biobased materials are derived from plants and other renewable agricultural, marine, and forestry materials. They offer an alternative to conventional fossil-based products. In the Purotouch line, over 10% of the materials come from renewable sources such as sugar beet and sugar cane, helping reduce the environmental impact of our products.

How Do Mylands Paints Contribute to a Healthier Environment?

Mylands paints are formulated with low levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which are harmful chemicals commonly found in traditional paints. VOCs can release into the air and contribute to air pollution and health issues. By using water-based formulas with natural earth pigments, Mylands paints not only provide vibrant and rich colours but also minimise environmental impact and improve indoor air quality, making them safer for use in homes.

What Does Achieving Carbon Neutrality Mean for Your Company?

Achieving carbon neutrality means that the Library Ladder Company has balanced its carbon emissions by reducing them as much as possible and offsetting the remainder. This is verified by Carbon Neutral Britain. Being carbon neutral since 2021, we continue to focus on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable practices throughout our operations. Our goal is to achieve net-zero emissions within the next five years, demonstrating our commitment to combating climate change.

What Sustainability Practices Does the Library Ladder Company Implement?

The Library Ladder Company integrates sustainability into its core operations by choosing materials that are either biocircular or biobased, sourcing FSC-certified timber, and offering products like Mylands paints that are environmentally friendly. Our wall panels, mouldings, roses, and skirting are produced in a factory powered by 100% green electricity and maintain a carbon-neutral status. Additionally, we are continuously exploring new ways to reduce our carbon footprint, such as promoting energy efficiency and sustainable transportation methods.
