Pantone Colour of the year – to quote its creators – “brave, fearless and pulsating”. Viva Magenta is Pantone’s colour of 2023.

After 2020’s muted evening blue, the 2021 joint winner of pebble grey and hazard-warning yellow, and this year’s bright periwinkle hue, Pantone have settled on this bold shade of carmine red for 2023.

“It’s brave, it’s fearless, it depicts optimism and joy – and we know that we are all greatly in need of that,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute.

How will we see Colour in 2023?

This year’s Colour of the Year is powerful and empowering. It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundary-less shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.
Magenta is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family which expresses new signals of strength. Magenta is a pulsating colour which exuberates joy and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.
