How to use wall mouldings to create a panelled wall
Creating a panelled wall using wall mouldings is a great way to add architectural interest and elegance to any room. Here are some steps to follow to achieve this look:
-
Choose the right type of wall moulding: There are different types of wall mouldings to choose from such skirting, coving, dad rail moulding, and picture rail moulding. Consider the style of your home and the look you want to achieve when selecting your moulding.
-
Measure the walls: Measure the height and width of the walls where you want to install the panelled wall. This will help you determine the number and length of moulding pieces you will need.
-
Determine the panel size: Decide on the size of the panels you want to create. This will depend on the size of your moulding pieces and the height of your walls.
-
Install the skirting board moulding: Start by installing the baseboard moulding along the bottom of the wall. This will act as the foundation for your panelled wall.
-
Install the dado rail moulding: Measure and mark the height where you want the chair rail to sit. Install the dado moulding at this height.
-
Install vertical moulding pieces: Measure and mark the spacing for the vertical moulding pieces. Typically, these pieces are installed evenly spaced between the skirting and dado/chair rail.
-
Install horizontal moulding pieces: Measure and cut the horizontal moulding pieces to fit between the vertical pieces. Install them on the wall to create the panels.
-
Finish the installation: Once all the moulding pieces are installed, fill in any nail holes and gaps with filler. Sand and paint the moulding to finish the panelled wall.
By following these steps, you can create a beautiful panelled wall using wall mouldings that will enhance the look of your room.
