Exclusive Interview: Sarah Shares Her Home Renovation Journey

In a cosy corner of her beautifully renovated master bedroom, Sarah, the creative force behind a popular home Instagram account @inside_number_5_, graciously welcomes us to delve into the details of her recent renovation project. She has the project that led to the transformation of her English countryside home.

From the moment Sarah and her husband started on their home renovation journey in April 2017, they had a pretty clear idea on what sort of style they wanted for their home. "We wanted to put our own stamp on it and really emphasise the Colonial style the home already had," Sarah reflects, recalling the initial inspiration behind their project. The challenge was daunting, but their passion for design and determination to create a space that truly felt like home kept them motivated.

Sarah finds inspiration in the most unexpected places, from cosy Cotswolds hotels to beautiful pottery from Greece. "Pinterest and Instagram have been invaluable resources for me," she shares. "I love exploring colonial aesthetics and blending them with the cosy charm of the English countryside."

As the renovation progressed, Sarah collaborated with James from JL Bespoke to bring her vision to life. "The ribbed detailing was actually James's idea," Sarah reveals, highlighting the collaborative nature of their partnership. The decision to incorporate ribbed detailing on the wardrobes added depth and character to the space, elevating the design to new heights.

One of the most striking features of Sarah's master bedroom is the inclusion of a ladder in the wardrobe design. "I had the idea for the ladder from the very beginning," Sarah admits. "It became a central element of the design, not only as a statement piece but also for practical reasons." By extending the wardrobe doors to the ceiling, Sarah maximised storage space while creating a visually stunning focal point in the room.

And what does Sarah cherish most about her new space? "Oh, there are so many things to love, but if I had to choose, I'd say the doors that lead onto the balcony are my favourite. I'm looking forward to enjoying some peaceful coffee mornings out there, weather permitting, of course! And the added wardrobe space has been an absolute game-changer for us."
