An Interview With Charlotte Botham of Charlotte Botham Projects

For this feature, we spoke with Charlotte Botham, founder of Charlotte Botham Projects, about her beautiful Gresham Project in SW London, a Victorian home renovation where an LLCompany rolling ladder became an essential design element within the new master suite.

Charlotte shares how the brief, lifestyle needs, and the architecture of the home all led to incorporating a ladder for both elegance and everyday practicality.

Tell us about the project and the homeowners.

“This project was based in SW London for a lovely young professional couple looking to revamp their Victorian home. We designed and project-managed the works, and one of the most exciting elements was combining two bedrooms to create a master suite. It was a real transformation.

The brief was a luxury hotel-inspired space with calm, neutral tones.”

What key functional requirements shaped the design?

“Our client explained that she has extremely early starts for her job, and would be waking and getting ready long before her husband. This immediately led me to think about minimising noise and light disturbance.

One of the first solutions was a hanging rail where she could prepare the next day’s outfit the night before. This avoids the bright overhead lighting and the endless cupboard doors opening at 5am while searching for that missing item!”

Why did you choose a rolling ladder system for this master suite?

“Being a period property, the home benefits from tall Victorian ceilings, which are such a luxury. However, they can also be a breeding ground for lost treasures hidden away in the top boxes of built-in furniture - beautiful storage that too often becomes completely inaccessible in day-to-day life.

This is exactly where the rolling ladder became essential.

The ladder looks stunning in situ, and the adjustable top hooks mean it can be pushed flush against the wardrobe doors when not in use, saving valuable floor space. It transforms the upper cabinetry from ‘nice to have’ into genuinely functional storage.”

What was your experience working with the LLCompany ladder system?

“Our team loved working with the Library Ladder products. The instructions and installation were incredibly simple and user-friendly.

From a design point of view, I particularly loved the range of finishes. It allowed us to match the ladder hardware with the nearby curtain pole for a seamless look.”

How did the client feel about the final result?

“The client is genuinely thrilled with the end result. The ladder feels like a natural part of the bedroom design and adds a luxury yet practical touch, which is everything we wanted for the space.

We’re extremely pleased with the outcome as a company, and we look forward to using LLCompany ladders again in future projects.”
