Description

Create a concealed drop-down shelf within bespoke joinery, fitted furniture or a standalone shelf using our Secret Shelf Mechanism.

The kit contains the specialist hardware and RFID locking mechanism required to create a hidden storage compartment. When activated, the concealed mechanism releases the underside of the shelf, allowing it to drop down and provide access to the compartment.

Please note: this product is the mechanism and hardware kit only. The timber shelf and surrounding joinery are not included.

We recommend that the mechanism is installed by a carpenter, cabinet maker or joiner. The shelf can be incorporated into larger bespoke joinery, including fitted cabinetry, shelving and media units, or used to construct a standalone floating secret shelf.

Because the finished shelf is made separately, the timber, dimensions and finish can be coordinated with the surrounding joinery or interior.

The mechanism is designed for shelf lengths between 50.8cm and 71.12cm and includes an RFID locking system operated using the supplied key card or key fob.

Generally, we hold a good stock of the hardware range and therefore your order should be delivered in a timely manner. If items are in stock then your order will be picked and ready to sent out within two days.

Occasionally there are delays with some stock items and if there are any delays with your order we will get in touch straight away to let you know. You can then either decide to continue with your order and wait, or request a refund.

Returns & Cancellations

If you change your mind about your purchase and no longer want your goods, you have 14 days to let us know. The 14 days starts from the day your order has been delivered to you. You need to contact us by email to let us know you would like to start a return and we will advise you on the steps that need to be taken. You will be responsible for returning the goods within 5 days of your request to return. Once the goods have been received back at the warehouse, they will be checked and if the goods are free from damage and without any signs of use, your refund will be issued within the following 14 days.

RFID Concealed Locking System

The hidden compartment is operated using the supplied RFID key card or key fob, so no visible lock is required on the finished shelf.

The system uses an Austrian-made RFID lock and motor. The lithium-ion battery is rated for up to 20,000 cycles or approximately four years of use and provides an audible warning when the battery needs attention.

Build the Shelf to Suit Your Interior

Because the timber shelf is not included, you can select the wood, stain, paint or other finish to suit your project. This also makes the hardware kit suitable for bespoke joinery where the secret shelf needs to coordinate with existing shelving, cabinetry or furniture.

Do you supply the finished shelf?

Can the secret shelf mechanism be built into bespoke joinery?

Yes. The mechanism can be incorporated into bespoke fitted furniture, cabinetry, shelving, media units and other suitable joinery.

Because the shelf is made as part of the joinery, the timber and finish can be coordinated with the surrounding furniture so the concealed compartment remains discreet.

Can the mechanism be used to make a floating secret shelf?

Yes. Although the mechanism does not need to be installed in a floating shelf, a carpenter or joiner can use the kit to construct a standalone floating secret shelf if required.

The same mechanism can therefore be used either within larger bespoke joinery or as an individual wall-mounted shelf.

Do I need a carpenter to install the secret shelf mechanism?

We recommend using an experienced carpenter, cabinet maker or joiner. The finished shelf needs to be constructed around the mechanism accurately for the concealed drop-down section to operate correctly.

If the mechanism is being incorporated into fitted furniture or a larger piece of bespoke joinery, we recommend discussing the requirements with your joiner before construction begins.

How does the hidden shelf open?

The concealed compartment uses an RFID locking system. Present the supplied RFID key card or key fob at the appropriate point to release the hidden lock. The mechanism then allows the concealed section of the shelf to drop down.

Is there a visible lock?

No. The RFID locking mechanism is concealed within the finished shelf or joinery, so a conventional keyhole or visible lock is not required.
