Berry Bros. & Rudd, Britain's oldest wine and spirits merchant, undertook a bold expansion of its iconic premises at No.1 St James’s Street with the creation of a dedicated Spirits Shop. Designed by Mowat & Company, the space celebrates centuries of heritage while introducing a refined retail experience focused on luxury spirits.

This new addition connects with their historic wine shop at 63 Pall Mall, enhancing the flow between spaces and effectively doubling the retail footprint.

Our Contribution

We were proud to supply a bespoke ladder system for the Spirits Shop, working closely with Mowat & Company to ensure a solution that was both functional and in keeping with the historic, richly textured interior.

Our involvement included:

  • Technical input during specification

  • Custom quotation and hardware guidance

  • Product selection tailored to the aesthetics of aged wood, reclaimed barrels, and atmospheric lighting

The ladder serves both practical and visual purposes - offering access to high-level shelving while adding an unmistakable focal point to the interior.

Design Highlights

  • Use of heritage materials such as reclaimed wine barrel staves and whisky casks, creating a warm, immersive feel

  • Sustainable and tactile palette of timber, aged brass and deep tones

  • Retail design that merges storytelling with elegant functionality
